Out-of-State Gun Grabbers Want to Register Your Guns in New Mexico

Dear New Mexico Gun Owner:

Please act immediately. Your gun rights are at stake!

Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg wants to buy New Mexico. And he’s prepared to spend whatever’s necessary to buy away your rights.

Apparently, he’s not satisfied that his anti-gun laws have turned New York into a totalitarian crime-ridden cesspool.

But if he’s successful, the blood-drenched South Bronx will soon be coming to Albuquerque.

Bloomberg’s anti-gun bill is House Bill 50, and in brief, the bill would register virtually every gun sale in the state of New Mexico.

Not surprisingly, all 33 sheriffs in New Mexico have come out in OPPOSITION to this universal registration bill.

But Michael Bloomberg doesn’t care. He still wants to buy away your rights!

Major Problems with H.B. 50

There are many other problems in addition to registration.  For starters, the bill imposes a ban on virtually every private sale in the state.

So under H.B. 50, if you want to sell your gun to your lifelong neighbor, you and he both may have to take a day off of work, drive to a dealer, pay a hefty fee, and hope that this is not one of the 8% of all firearms transfers that are falsely denied or delayed.

Perhaps Bloomberg does not understand that, unlike New York City, a round trip in New Mexico could involve a trip of over 100 miles.

But that’s just the beginning: Virtually every “transfer” has to go through a dealer — which is how the registration will take place.

Under language that was added to H.B. 50 in committee, you can loan one of your firearms to another person for up to five days.

BUT if you made an innocent mistake about whether the individual could legally possess a firearm, you would go to prison. Period.

And you would go to prison even if you didn’t know your friend was a prohibited person.

Or if THEY didn’t know they were a prohibited person.

Or if NO REASONABLE PERSON would have realized they were prohibited.

H.B. 50 says you will be held “strictly liable” and will go to jail — even though, again, NO REASONABLE PERSON would have been able to know the other person was legally prevented from possessing a gun.

Want to Sell a Gun? Well, Do You Feel Lucky?

So, if your friend were a veteran who had his rights taken away prior to 2007, you go to prison for selling him or her a gun — even though Veterans Affairs never notified your friend.

If your friend’s name had been put into the NICS system for failing to pay a speeding ticket (and being classified as a “fugitive from justice”), you go to prison.

If your friend was a “fugitive from justice” because of a bench warrant after they failed to show up for jury duty, you go to prison.

As you can see, this bill is horrific.

House Bill 50 has already passed out of the House Judiciary Committee earlier this month and now goes to the House floor.

So please urge your state representative to oppose New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s clownish anti-gun bill.
