Robber shot by clerk during holdup

A clerk turned the tables on a man who tried to hold up a market in Madison Tuesday night.

Antonio Martin, 24, was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon after he was shot during a holdup at the Grand Slam Market.

Martin, a parolee, has six aggravated robbery convictions and a conviction for facilitation of especially aggravated kidnapping, all out of Shelby County.

Police said Martin entered the market at 9:40 p.m. armed with a gun and wearing a mask. He demanded money from the clerk, 52-year-old Jeff Sloan, who complied.

“He had a mask on his face, of course, and he pulled a gun,” said Alex Patel, owner of Grand Slam Market. “Said, ‘Give me all your money.’ Pulled a gun to his face right there. He had no choice, he had to open up the register and give him all the money.”
