Armed gas station clerk shoots, kills robbery suspect on Indianapolis’ south side

INDIANAPOLIS – A gas station clerk claims he was defending himself when he shot and killed a robbery suspect Monday evening.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the Phillips 66 gas station in the 3200 block of S. Keystone Avenue just before midnight.

The clerk told police that the suspect had demanded money from him. Police have not released the details about what exactly happened next, but at some point, the clerk pulled out a gun and shot at the suspect.

That man then made it outside of the business before he collapsed and died. Police say they did find a gun on the suspect.

Levi Walker, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene from two gunshot wounds to the torso. His death has been ruled a homicide by the Marion County Coroner.

The clerk was not injured in the shooting. He told police that he shot the man in self-defense.

Customers at the Phillips 66 station say they are glad that the clerk fought back.
