Dear Representative:

I am writing to urge you to vote against final passage of the hastily- and ill-conceived anti-gun, anti-freedom provisions of H.R. 10, the 9/11 bill.

As the attached analysis demonstrates, this is a bill which:

    * Takes the final step to establish the driver’s license as a national ID card;

    * Authorizes the establishment of an enormous database containing personal information on American citizens; and

    * Sets the stage for regulations requiring large numbers of employment applicants to be fingerprinted and “cleared” with the government prior to employment.

Yet, the same supporters of these Orwellian provisions didn’t deign to allow a floor amendment by Virgil Goode allowing airline pilots to use firearms to defend themselves from terrorists –- before being shot out of the sky by a military aircraft.

Under the circumstances, we have reluctantly concluded that this bill is not about “security” or “terrorism,” but about political posturing in an election year –- at the expense of individual liberties.

As this is a vote of great interest to gun owners, we would urge you to vote NO on final passage of H.R. 10.

Sincerely,

Larry Pratt
Executive Director
