Passerby Shoots, Kills Motorist Fighting With Deputy During Traffic Stop

A passerby shot and killed a motorist who was fighting with a Florida sheriff’s deputy after warning him to stop hitting the officer.

A Lee County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to make a traffic stop around 9:30 am Monday morning, but the driver instead sped up and was driving at more than 100 miles per hour, forcing the police officer to chase after him.

The 12 year veteran deputy, Dean Bardes and the suspect both stopped at one of the exit ramps. Sources said that Barnes told his supervisors that the suspect was armed.

Shanta Holditch told WZVN that the suspect pulled Bardes out of the car and “just kept beating him and beating him … throwing him to the ground and punching him in all different directions.”
