Op-Ed: A ban on bump stocks is the ‘gateway drug’ for more gun control

No, the headline isn’t a slippery slope argument; it’s the gun controllers’ end goal.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said: “I certainly hope” a ban on bump stocks will lead to further restrictions.

Gun controllers like Nancy Pelosi are cunning. They know that many gun owners will be very vocal about a so-called “assault weapons” ban or universal background check. But she assumes that a ban on bump stocks might be more palatable to the public.

The problem is, the proposed regulations will affect much more than just bump stocks.

HR 3999, the “bump stock” ban bill, seeks to ban “any part or combination of parts that is designed and functions to increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic rifle.” This bill is worded so vaguely that many firearm parts could be considered to “increase the rate of fire.”

Semi-automatic rifles, because they fire one round with one pull of the trigger, do not have set rate of fire. The rate of fire is dependent on the user.
