Tell Your State Senator and Delegate to Override the Anti-gun Zealot in the Governor’s Mansion

ACTION:  Contact your state Senator and Delegate.  Ask them to vote to override anti-gun Governor McAulliffe’s veto of reasonable, common sense legislation to protect the privacy of gun owners (S.B. 948).

Not long ago, a concealed carry holder was driving north on I-95 with his family.

He was stopped and forced to get out of his car, as he, his wife, and children were detained like common criminals.

His crime?  It turns out that his “crime” was possessing a Florida concealed carry license — information which, it also turns out, was broadly available to law enforcement throughout the country.  This includes parts of the country where being a gun owner is a criminal offense.

This particular stop occurred to a Floridian in Maryland.  But it could just as easily been a Virginian.  Because, unfortunately, Virginia law currently provides inadequate privacy protection to gun owners who apply for and receive concealed carry permits.

Senate Bill 948, which was just vetoed by Governor Terry McAulliffe, would have improved this situation somewhat.  It would have added a new paragraph prohibiting information in the Virginia Criminal Information Network from being shared with law enforcement in states that don’t have reciprocity agreements with Virginia.

It’s a modest improvement, but apparently not modest enough for our anti-gun governor.  In fact, this veto is so extreme it is opposed by gun privacy groups ranging from Gun Owners of America to the liberal American Civil Liberties Union.

ACTION:

1. Contact your state Senator and Delegate.  Ask them to vote to override anti-gun Governor McAulliffe’s veto of reasonable, common sense legislation to protect the privacy of gun owners (S.B. 948).

2. Distribute this alert to your pro-gun family and friends in Virginia and urge them to take action!
