Why NEITHER of these people should be the next House Speaker

Unfortunately, with Republicans in control of the U.S. House and Senate, under the failed leadership of Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, gun control efforts were initiated through the Fix NICS Bill.

With Ryan finally retiring from Congress this year many speculate that Congressman Kevin McCarthy could take his place as the next Speaker of the House, assuming the Republicans keep their majority after the election this November.

McCarthy, a “Benedict Arnold” like his fellow Republicans, voted to strip gun rights from millions of law-abiding veterans and senior citizens by sending their names to the national gun ban system, NICS.

They were able to push the bill through a procedural maneuver McCarthy used in March during the Omnibus spending bill that was over 2,200 pages long and only made public 17 hours before it was scheduled for a vote.

Republicans Ryan and McCarthy worked with anti-Second Amendment Democrats Senator Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi in a closed room. Later, they insisted that Fix NICS would not be passed “without reciprocity,” which was false.

Ryan and McCarthy made sure that gun control passed in the Omnibus spending bill and that reciprocity was dead; and, that the Second Amendment rights of veterans, hearing impaired and others’ was stripped.

Gun Owners of America gave Rep. McCarthy a D grade on his commitment to the Second Amendment.

Tim Macy, Chairman of Gun Owners for America, writes that McCarthy has among other things:

Voted to continue funding an illegal gun registry, when the ATF was unlawfully compiling the names of those who had made multiple firearms purchases;
Supported the anti-gun ObamaCare system which allowed doctors to compile gun-related information on their patients;
Voted against an amendment that would not only have limited the ability of the National Security Agency to wiretap groups like Gun Owners of America, but would have required the FBI to secure a warrant before searching the billions of phone calls, texts and emails swept up the NSA; and,
Refused to cosponsor the Constitutional Carry reciprocity bill (H.R. 38), which was GOA’s signature piece of legislation that we were pushing this Congress.
