Springfield, VA – Gun Owners of America (GOA) is opposing President Donald Trump’s inclusion Gun Confiscation Orders (sugar-coated as “red-flag laws”) in his Commission on School Safety Report.
This report was announced on the same day that President Trump’s Department of Justice formalized its move to regulate and ban bump stocks, a regulation that could be used to ban commonly-owned rifles, like the AR-15.
GOA’s executive director, Erich Pratt responded, “Sadly, the President is continuing with his ‘take the guns first, due process later’ rhetoric. The Gun Confiscation Orders are a method to confiscate one’s guns -- without due process.
“Consider the story of 60-year-old Gary Willis in Maryland, who was a victim of these orders. While Willis was never convicted of a crime, the police came to confiscate his firearms in the early morning hours, resulting in the loss of his life.
“Instead of resorting to the ‘Minority Report’ style gun control preferred by Michael Bloomberg and Chuck Schumer, President Trump should encourage initiatives like Concealed Carry Reciprocity, repealing gun-free zones and arming teachers -- all measures he has vocally supported in the past.
“These Gun Confiscation Orders are a violation of Second, Fourth and Fifth Amendment rights, and GOA will continue to stand for the Bill of Rights and oppose these dangerous initiatives.”
Erich Pratt, or another GOA spokesman, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over 1.5 million members and activists.
